What to expect from the Cardiff InterPASS conference
Kaplan Assessments always aims to design, develop, and deliver the best professional qualifications for numerous sectors, including high-stakes industries such as legal and finance.
At the conference, a range of leaders from these fields will be there, including:
By hearing from them directly, we can ensure that our assessments are meeting the latest requirements to prevent any skill gaps.
An example of this is AI within assessments - which is a key theme across the workshops at the conference.
This is a subject that is also very important to us at Kaplan Assessments. As more industries use AI in their day-to-day tasks, assessments need to innovate to ensure candidates bridge any new skill gaps.
With a range of experts from various sectors as well as leaders in assessment strategy, together we can share ideas and best practices to continually better professional assessment regulation and reliability to improve candidate competence and performance.
Hear from some of Kaplan Assessments's leading experts
The Cardiff InterPASS Conference has a range of speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities.
The two keynote speakers are:
- Professor Suzanne Chamberlain, Head of Assessment and Liaison, MLA, General Medical Council.
- Professor Olle ten Cate, Emeritus Professor of Medical Education, UMC Utrecht, the Netherlands.
As the focus of the conference is to explore the complexities of designing and delivering assessments for high-stakes industries, we can expect to get some expert methods, tips, and techniques from these keynote speakers.
Plus, at Cardiff University’s Centre for Student Life, you will also be able to hear from some of Kaplan Assessment’s very own experts as they will be leading a number of the workshops!
These include:
- Jo Cockerill, one of our Psychometricians, will discuss ‘Understanding standard setting’ - a topic of utmost importance in ensuring the robustness and fairness of professional qualifications.
The 'Understanding Standard Setting' workshop will cover a range of standard-setting methods and will provide attendees with an overview of techniques and practical information on how and when to apply them. - Dr. Lisa Coombes, Director of Psychometrics and Assessment Development, will lead the workshop ‘How to do an inclusive assessment’. A topic that is vital to us as we aim to ensure our assessments are inclusive for everyone - including neurodivergent professionals.
The 'Inclusive Assessment' workshop will focus on how to build quality assessments that are fair and equitable for everyone, and how through clever use of assessment material we can drive inclusive practices and support diversity.
Dr. Lisa Coombes says:
“I am really excited to be presenting at this inaugural conference, sharing experiences and supporting the professional development of like-minded colleagues from across various high-stakes assessments organisations.”
At the conference, there will also be seminars and workshops from other leaders discussing specific industries, like accountancy and medical assessments.
Why collaboration is essential to designing assessments
It’s no secret that assessments need to meet specific standards, like:
- Rigorous
- Robust
- Fair
- Reliable
How do we ensure that assessments meet these regulation requirements - especially in an age of innovation for numerous industries?
There are a number of people who work on assessment developments, such as psychometricians and quality assurers, to make sure that the core principles of assessments are maintained.
However, we also recognise that as modern working evolves, assessments need to keep up with these developments.
Therefore, by coming together with fellow industry leaders, we can share ideas to ensure that when we are designing assessments, the latest best practices are used.
Here at Kaplan Assessments, we also design and develop professional qualifications with businesses.
By doing this together, we can tailor assessments to ensure your workforce has the relevant skills to prevent skills gaps and ensure everyone has the opportunity to develop professionally.
We look forward to collaborating with you at Cardiff InterPASS in July!
Kaplan Assessments looks forward to seeing you at the start of July for two days of networking, sharing ideas, and discovering new approaches to professional assessments.
We only ever aim to provide candidates with complete competence in the skills required for their sector and this conference provides us with the opportunity to continually reach these standards.
By working collaboratively, we share and learn from each other to maintain the core principles of assessments alongside innovative thinking.
