Neil Rice

About Neil Rice 

Neil lives in Devon with his family, where he enjoys local walks around the moorlands and coastlines. As an outdoor enthusiast, Neil often embarks on adventures further afield, including a memorable journey up Ben Nevis via the CMD Arete route. 

Neil is also a lifelong fan of Exeter City, as well as a qualified referee. When he isn’t hiking up mountains or kicking a ball around, he spends his time playing the guitar and piano. 

Experience 

Prior to joining Kaplan, Neil was the Head of Psychometrics and Informatics at the the University of Exeter, where he worked primarily in the area of medical education assessment. 

Neil has also worked as a Statistical Programmer and Researcher in roles at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth.

Qualifications

As an undergraduate, Neil studied Economics and Econometrics at the University of Bath. He then went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Computer Science at the University of Bristol and a Professional Doctorate in Education at the University of Exeter.

Specialisms within the sector

Over recent years, Neil has presented at various education conferences, including the International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE) and the European Board of Medical Assessors (EBMA).

He has also presented at specialist psychometric conferences, including the International Meeting of the Psychometric Society (IMPS).

Neil’s areas of expertise are in the psychometrics of progress testing, OSCEs, programmatic assessment, and the development and implementation of computer adaptive testing.
